Born Rosetta Nubin in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, in 1915, she began singing and playing the guitar at a young age, honing her craft in the Pentecostal Church where her mother preached. By her teenage years, Sister Rosetta was captivating audiences with her powerful voice and unique blend of gospel, blues, and jazz influences.

Sister Rosetta’s breakthrough came in the 1930s and 1940s when she began recording for Decca Records, becoming one of the first gospel artists to achieve mainstream success. Songs like "Rock Me," "This Train," and "Up Above My Head" showcased her electrifying guitar work and dynamic vocal delivery, earning her a devoted following and cementing her reputation as a musical pioneer.

However, it was Sister Rosetta’s live performances that truly set her apart. With her Gibson SG guitar slung over her shoulder and her voice reaching the heavens, she captivated audiences worldwide with soul-stirring renditions of gospel classics and fiery guitar solos. Whether in churches, theaters, or concert halls, Sister Rosetta commanded the stage with unmatched presence and charm.

One of her most iconic performances occurred in 1964 when she returned to her gospel roots with a groundbreaking concert at Manchester Town Hall in England. Backed by a full gospel choir, she delivered a spine-tingling rendition of "Didn't It Rain," bringing the audience to its feet and solidifying her status as a musical legend.

Despite facing discrimination and prejudice throughout her career, Sister Rosetta remained steadfast, using her music as a force for change and inspiration. In doing so, she paved the way for future generations of musicians, breaking down barriers of race, gender, and genre.
