Cooking with a Side of Melodies

Cooking with a Side of Melodies

Big Mama Mae’s Volume 1

Playlist on Spotify

 Happy Black History Month

When I embarked on the journey of creating this playlist, I was overflowing with ideas. However, I found myself grappling with the direction and the voice I wanted to convey through it. Months passed as I added and deleted songs, trying to find the perfect flow for the playlist. It was during these moments, while concocting various salads in my kitchen, that I realized I wanted the music to infuse joy into the cooking experience.

As someone who loves experimenting with new recipes, I understand the need for music that sets a calming, cheerful, and engaging atmosphere. Trying out new dishes often demands extra time and patience, so I aimed for melodies that would beckon the listener with warmth and energy throughout the cooking process.

This playlist, predominantly instrumental, was meticulously curated to leave room for interpretation, allowing the listener to immerse themselves in the culinary experience. It kicks off with the soothing, melodic tones of Dr. Saxlove’s “Autumn Leaves” (Soft Jazz Version). The moment I heard this piece, I was transported to a serene place. The sensual saxophone notes lingered in the air, crafting memories of strolling through a landscape adorned with orange and brown leaves. It was the perfect introduction to this sensory culinary journey.

While I’m excited about every song on the playlist, one track that truly stands out for me is “Ivy League” by Kelvin Momo featuring Ch’cco, Yumbs, Ta Skipper, and Tlholo. Kelvin Momo, a talented DJ from Soweto, South Africa, is making waves in the vibrant Amapiano genre. The song “Ivy League,” comes from the album of the same name with a listening time of nearly 3 hours, it’s truly a gem. It’s a vibrant and eclectic album that transports you to another world — and I absolutely love it! It’s worth listening to more than once.

Despite the playlist being over 2 hours long, I find myself constantly updating it and adding new songs. Each time I listen to it, I’m inspired to extend the vibes for an even longer period. So, whether you’re whipping up the next salad from my cookbook or simply craving some chill vibes, don’t forget to hit play on Spotify to savor the full experience of cooking with Big Mama Mae in your kitchen.

And if you like the playlist, share it with someone and save it to your library for a quick access.
